About Vale of Belvoir Counselling
My name is Kathy Humberstone. I offer individual or couple counselling from my home in the Vale of Belvoir. I have a dedicated room for this with on-suite facilities on the ground floor. The room is wheelchair accessible. If transport is an issue I am able to travel to you and this would involve the small additional cost of petrol.
I charge £35 for an hour session, £45 for couples and I do offer a concessionary rate to the low waged or to students.
I am able to work with adolescents and adults of all ages, and I offer both short term and open-ended therapy. I am currently offering evening and weekend appointments.
I use the person-centred counselling approach in the way that I work and in my philosophy of life. I believe that human connection is something that we can all enjoy and benefit from, and I also believe that human connection, in the form of a therapeutic counselling relationship, can be very healing.
Person-centred counselling is non-directive, therefore you have the freedom to work through any crises and challenges at your own pace. As your counsellor I aim to help you through by listening and understanding, offering you support, helping you to feel safe enough to explore difficult areas of your life. I will be genuine and honest with you and not hide myself. I won’t judge you or your actions and you will have the opportunity to be open and honest in a way that is not always possible with friends and family.
Mostly counselling involves talking and listening to each other but I am very flexible in the way that I work and enjoy working creatively using art materials and symbols. I am able to incorporate guided meditations and mindfulness techniques into sessions and I would value any ideas for working together that you have.
As a registered member of the British Association of Counsellor and Psychotherapists (BACP) I take my ethical obligations very seriously and I would encourage you to read the ethical principles laid down in the BACP Code of Conduct so that you can understand how seriously I take your welfare and safety.
My training, work experience and any achievement
I have a first class honours degree in Humanistic Counselling from The University of Nottingham. I am currently mid-way through a masters qualification in Trauma Studies, also at Nottingham University.
I have additional training in working with children and young people, working with loss and bereavement, childhood sexual abuse, working creatively with clients, eating disorders, sex and sexuality, addictions, self-harm and suicide, mindfulness, gesalt therapy, child protection and safeguarding, and group therapy.
I am a qualified practising specialist nurse and I hold a current CRB certificate. I have nursing experience dating back 25 years and I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of physical and psychological difficulties.
I currently volunteer one evening per week with Incest and Sexual Abuse Survivors (ISAS) and have helped to facilitate therapeutic groups with this organisation in the past. For two years I was a volunteer counsellor at Counselling Xtra in Nottingham and I was a board member of this organisation. Further Information
I live in a small village called Stathern in the Vale of Belvoir. The easiest way to get to Stathern is by car. However there is a limited bus service from Melton Mowbray and Bingham. Unfortunately this bus service isn’t available in the evenings or on Sundays.
